MAC releases Division 1,2 All-Star selections

State College senior center Eric Meister picked up another award Tuesday night, earning Most Valuable Player honors of Division 1 of the Mountain Athletic Conference.

Meister picked up the award at the conference's annual end-of-season banquet in Tyrone.

Teammate Andrew Kerr joined Meister on the first-team all-star list while Emily Suhey was a first-team selection for the girls.

In Division 2, Twin brothers Cody and Cory Boone each were named first-team all-stars after leading Bald Eagle Area to the MAC title, its first-ever District 6 Class AA title and a berth in the second round of the PIAA tournament. Bellefonte's Jordan Williams also was a first-team selection, as was Lady Red Raider sophomore Angie Proper.

Meister averaged 17.2 points a game this season for the Little Lions, who won the conference and were the District 6 Class AAAA runner-up. He finished his career with 1,407 points in 112 varsity games and is heading to Holy Cross this fall on a basketball scholarship. Kerr contributed 9.6 points a game for the Little Lions.

Williams finished with 1,120 career points after averaging 18.7 points a game this season. Cody Boone averaged 14.3 points a game, while Cory Boone added 10.3 a night for the Eagles, who lost to Bishop Canevin in the PIAA sweet 16.

Also on the Division 1 first team were John Boyer, Jake Vite and Jared Colmer of Hoillidaysburg. Among those on the alll-defensive team were Little Lions Meister, Kerr and Mitch Rhyner, who was an honorable mention all-star.

Lewistown's Matt Hilton was the MVP of Division 2 while Bishop Guilfoyle's Sean McConnell also was a first-team selection. Among those on the all-defensive team were Cody Boone and Bellefonte's Kent Brown.

BEA's Patrick Rougeux was a second-team all-star and Philipsburg-Osceola's Mike Supko was a third-team pick. P-O's Matt Curtis earned the sportsmanship award.

Suhey averaged 13.3 points and 9.3 rebounds for the Lady Little Lions, who finished 9-16 and lost to Altoona in the district semifinals. She also was named to the all-defensive team.

Proper averaged 16.9 points and 4.8 rebounds this season for the Lady Raiders, who fell to Moon in the PIAA Class AAA sweet 16, part of a 20-win season, the best in school history. Proper has 625 points so far in her career while Suhey has 599. Both are sophomores.

Altoona's Samantha Reimer was named the Division 1 MVP and was joined on the first team by teammate Rachel Gehret and Hollidaysburg's Amanda Ottaway and Jess Zerbee.

State College's Mandy Clouse and Alli Mock each were named honorable mention all-stars, and Clouse also picked up the sportsmanship award.

Lewistown's Jenna Craig was the Division 2 MVP, while the rest of the first-team included Allison Mitchell of Indian Valley, Tyrone's Emily McKenna and Bishop Guilfoyle's Mary Foor. Bellefonte's Tosha Lucas and BEA's Amanda Reese were named to the defensive team.

Bellefonte's Missy Clouser and BEA's Courtney Garner were second-team all-stars while Reese and the Lady Raiders' Carina Struble were third-team picks.
