NBC Rewind + Bandwidth?

Thanks to the helpfulness of NBC.com, I am able to watch Heroes anytime if I can't at the regular 9 PM Monday showings. For those of you who have never heard of the show, it is about people around the world who inherit unique powers and discover what their destinies are. The only downside to watching episodes online is the high quality video sucks up much of our precious 2 GB bandwidth we are offered each week. This means I can't have too many shows I want to watch online each week. It's not too late to start watching Heroes! Just by watching the first few episodes of this season or renting season one can get you caught up!

You know what would be helpful? We need a site we can access easily that tells us how much bandwith we have left available. Or, even better, something we can download to our desktops. I'd even settle for knowing what day of the week it starts at, just to be able to think back on the week and judge if I've got bandwith to chew through by the end of it.

You can check your bandwidth consumption. The bandwidth counter also resets itself at 12:00:01 AM Sunday morning, every week.

And yes, it sucks. Big time. Penn State's bandwidth resources are simply inadequate to serve a university of this size, which is why they need to impose such limits, and is why you get about ~30kB/sec downloads via wireless during the day.

Garret, want to start something for more bandwidth that will be promptly ignored and possibly impossible to accomplish without the needless spending of millions of dollars to appease the bandwidth hungry students at penn state main with me?

I have done the exact same thing with NBC shows. My favorite show is actually the one that is on right before your favorite. "Chuck" is on Mondays at 8 pm and sometimes I am unable to get to a TV. Here's the trick: watch the shows in a wireless hotspot and use your VPN. No bandwidth is sucked up when you use wireless.

Josh Deffibaugh:

There is soo much that I want to use my bandwidth on. It sucks deciding what to see and priortizing the interent.

I seriously don't see how they will be able to continue with these bandwidth restrictions into the future. I mean now it just sucks, but what about 5 years from now? It's likely that the speeds we have will be unacceptable. If it's obtainable, they should be investing in faster connections to the campus because the internet is not going away. Who knows though, maybe as we bicker they're working out a solution.
