Kayla Hales is a Ph.D. candidate and Bunton-Waller Fellow in The Pennsylvania State University's College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST). She is also a member of the interdisciplinary Center for the Information Society (CIS).

Ms. Hales is originally from the Bronx, New York. She earned a B.S. in Information Technology (focusing on communication with a minor in management) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. She has been actively involved in cultural, technical, professional, and community service based organizations. Currently, she is the president of the Graduate Student Association in the College of IST (GIST). In her spare time she enjoys traveling, watching movies, dancing, writing, reading, and assisting others.
