As a Ph.D. candidate and a graduate teaching assistant in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, teaching has been a very enjoyable and rewarding activity for me and I would love to contribute to quality teaching in turfgrass and related sciences.
Teaching applied sciences such as turfgrass and soil can be challenging because students often differ greatly in industry experience and career expectations. I have been making continuous efforts to achieve effective teaching, which involves preparation, planning, and of course, modern technology. Computer and internet technology has revolutionized the way of teaching and learning. Utilized properly, modern technology can enormously benefit teachers and learners by improving the effectiveness and efficiency of both teaching and learning.
This portfolio mainly demonstrates how technology has been applied to my daily teaching activities including lecturing, lab demonstration, online instruction, and communicating with students. The contents of this web site are summarized as follows:
- Teaching philosophy is a statement of my opinions on the integration of technology into teaching and learning.
Course description provides access to web pages of the courses I developed/taught/assisted in.
Links & Resources is a list of web sites which can be useful teaching and learning materials in turfgrass and soil sciences.
Class presentation gives various media samples that have been used to assist classroom instruction.
Online instruction demonstrates how internet technology makes remote education possible and benefits conventional teaching/learning.
Communication shows how communication between the instructor and students can be improved with technology.
