LEE, Paula Young
Visiting Scholar in the History of Science, Harvard University. She is the editor of The Slaughterhouse and the City (special issue of Food & History, 2006), and Meat, Modernism, and the Rise of the Slaughterhouse (in press). Recent articles on animal subjects include “The 17th-century Ménagerie at Versailles as Château and Farm,” in The Baroque Villa, Suburban and Country Residences c. 1600-1800 (symposium proceedings, forthcoming), and “Neither Black Nor White: Brown Bodies and the Bear Pits,” in Race in the Atlantic World, 1700-1900, ed. Dwain Pruitt (forthcoming). She is currently completing two books: The Pit and the Labyrinth: The Place of Animals in Nineteenth-Century Paris; and The Birdcage of the Muses: Contemplating Animals at the Seventeenth-Century Ménagerie at Versailles.
