Reflection on lessons learned using technology

Technology in the Spanish Basic Language Program enhances teaching and learning by enriching both of these experiences with many kinds of computer-related media. These, of course, have limitations in the sense that they are not able to replace human resources completely. However, the use of PowerPoints and other media in the language classrooms increases the effectiveness of the lesson plans. The audio-visual aids stimulate the motivation of learners with topics and presentations personalized by the instructor, and customized to engage the learners with content that is relevant to them as university students.

The virtual space and the real life space of the classroom complement each other. This kind of academic environment encourages the learners to get actively involved in the process of second language acquisition. Also, while the focus and overall objective is gaining proficiency in communication, important structures of language (grammar and vocabulary) also come into play. Learners have the opportunity to practice the target language and gain a reasonable amount of fluency at different levels.
