Location

The math department is in McAllister building, next to Old Main. The talks on Saturday and Sunday will be held in McAllister 114. The math department is a short 5 minute walk from the downtown area. The Days Inn hotel is located down Pugh Street, and many restaurants are available on College and Beaver Avenues.

Registration

Registration is free, but necessary in order for us to plan breaks and determine necessary room sizes. Please register as soon as you are able by emailing sheaves2017psu@gmail.com with the following information:

  • Name.
  • University affiliation.
  • Rank (grad student, postdoc, etc.).
  • Advisor, if a grad student.
  • Estimate for needed fuding, if requesting funding.
REGISTER as soon as you know that you will be attending.

Funding

A limited amount of funding is available for graduate students and early career researchers. If you need funding to attend, please provide a requested amount for travel expenses in your registration email. Graduate students should have their advisor send a brief (one-paragraph) email of support to sheaves2017psu@gmail.com. All requests for funding must be received by October 31.

Meal Options

There are many good restaurant options in the area along College and Beaver avenues. Some suggestions include

  • Spat's. (Cajun food, 142 E College Ave)
  • Cosi Thai. (232 S Allen St)
  • Allen Street Grill. (American food, 100 W College Ave)
  • The Corner Room. (American food, 100 W College Ave)
  • India Pavillion. (222 E Calder Way)
  • Herwig's Austrian Bistro. (132 W College Ave)
Reimbursements

Participants being reimbursed by the workshop will need their flight itinerary and receipt, receipts for any ground transportation, and receipts for their hotels. Information concerning visa status etc. will be coming later.

Air Travel

The participants are asked to make their own travel arrangements, as early as possible. We ask the foreign participants to fly a US-flag carrier or code partner airline in order to be reimbursed by the NSF.

State College is served by the University Park Airport (SCE). For participants staying at the Days Inn hotel, the hotel operates a free shuttle from the airport to the hotel; call (814)-238-8454 after landing. Taxis are also reasonably priced, as the airport is only a few miles from campus.

Accommodation

We will book hotel rooms for the speakers and organizers at the Days Inn hotel. We kindly ask all other participants to make their own travel arrangements.

Room blocks have been reserved at the following hotels.

  • The Days Inn Penn State hotel is a 5 minute walk from the math department. The rate is $129/night + taxes with group code CGSHEA. Please call 1-814-238-8454 to reserve. Cut off date for reservations is November 6.
  • The Sleep Inn is about a 25 minute walk from the math department. The rate is $65/night + taxes or $75/night + taxes for double occupancy. Mention the conference title when you call 1-814-235-1020. Cut off date for reservations is November 27.

Parking

On Friday, the easiest parking option is probably the Pugh street garage, or park at your hotel. On the weekend, there is free parking at the Nittany parking deck.
