I think Drupal would be a fine choice... it does have a bit of a learning curve, especially since one of its design principals is to have a number of small, lightweight modules instead of 'all-in-one' solutions.

Thus its built-in Forum module is very basic, but can be extended with modules like Advanced Forum, Comment Upload, Signatures for Forums, etc...

It looks like you got some great ideas about how to move forward from CAMP and Advanced CAMP . Unfortunately, except for about 3.5 hours in Philly in between CAMPs, I wasn't able to touch base with the Internet2/EDUCAUSE crew.

Good luck with your new assignment. The Emerging Technologies Team will be watching closely and available if you need us.

- Jim Leous

I'll second that! I have a CD copy of it in my office I picked up from MacWorld, in case anyone wants to install it without waiting for the download. Now with the 3D acceleration, it really performs well, IMO.

- JEREMIAH HILL

Justin, I have used SQL developer in the past and I agree its pretty good. The thing I like about NetBeans is I can use one IDE for all of the languages that I develop in.

Jimmy,

For PL/SQL you might want to try out SQL Developer, it is feature rich (and free) and can also be used for other databases besides Oracle via a plugin.

http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/index.html

- JUSTIN PATTERSON

Hi Jackie,

Yes, we plan on doing an announcement probably before the Fall semester. Our efforts as of late, have been mainly focused on the PASS migration. In our group, that has pretty much involved all of us. Now that the migration is behind, we can tie up some loose ends with projects like chat.psu.edu.

Thanks,

Yes, there are a couple of them out there that support multiple protocols. On the windows/linux side, pidgen supports all of the ones that you mentioned. On the Mac side, adium supports them too.

- James A Vuccolo

Has anyone found a client that supports GoogleTalk, Yahoo, AOL, MSN, and jabber so you don't need multiple chat apps loaded on your machine? Those seem to be the big 5, so if there is one someone has already had success with, please let me know.

- MICHAEL CAREY

Yes, as long as they provide a federating jabber service. Most schools do this, and we provide it ourselves. It will also enable you to chat with people using services like Google's Chat.

- James A Vuccolo

No, anyone who has a jabber identity may chat with Access Account holders. A number of people have used it at conferences at other schools. What we have right now is alpha/beta, that is why there has not been a widespread announcement about it. I just wanted to let people know that we have Jabber again. We used to have a closed version of Jabber that was only accessible from the Penn State Portal. The new service, chat.psu.edu will work with a variety of chat clients.

- James A Vuccolo
