Praxis, TOEFL, etc.
Earlier this year, one of the questions of the week was to let me know what you'd like to see added to the EBSL website.  Alan suggested a list of the popular materials that are commonly asked for but are difficult to find other than at the desk - TOEFL, GRE, etc (books that we have older copies of that circulate.)  I've finally had time to put together a database of them.  I will add it to the EBSL page once I get trained in the new CMS next month.  In the meantime, there's a notebook at the desk (by the journal list) with a prinout.  Take a look!  Let me know if there's anything you'd like to see added and I'll update it.  The database contains titles, call numbers, location, and edition date.

Nothing special today. They're still working on the bricks outside of Paterno, so expect noise.  Also, the new public printer seems to be working just fine (knock on wood!)

The Maps Library will be closed until further notice.  This information came from Sally Kalin:

The new shelving along the south wall of the Maps Library collapsed during the night, spilling hundred of books all over the floor. The Maps cabinets broke some of the fall; I can't tell if they were damaged. We are so fortunate that no one was hurt.

Hillary notified me this morning of what happened. We have closed the Maps Library, locked the doors, and notified OPP. I told the staff at Lending not to touch anything because I'd like for OPP and Facilities to see the damage in its natural state.

I don't have any background in construction, but I was taken back when I saw the small screws that were used to attach the shelving to the wall . I've used larger and more powerful screws/bolts to hang potted plants.

Ron (you have a message from me on your answering service), I presume that OPP will check the other wall shelving to ensure that it is secure?

Knowlege Commons Timeline

Steven gave me a copy of the Knowlege Commons Timeline.  It's interesting - I'll put a copy in your mailboxes.  Let's see how accurate it turns out to be.

Mail Info:
Notice:  Decommissioning of Library Webmail

On May 12 DLT will turn off the library webmail service (https://psulias.psu.edu/webmail/webmail.cgi or, linked to from https://psulias.psu.edu).  This is the webmail that you used with your  @psulias.psu.edu email account.  As part of the migration of email from @psulias.psu.edu to @psu.edu  over the past 18 months you were instructed to use the Penn State webmail service:  webmail.psu.edu.
If you are still  using the now obsolete library webmail you are advised to do the following to ensure that you do not encounter a disruption in service on May 12.

1. Go to https://psulias.psu.edu
2. Log in
3. Click on the link to:  MSGStore/POPStore User Interface
4. On the welcome screen you'll see your forwarding address if you have configured one
Example:
            Forwarding address: lgk1@psu.edu

If you do not see a forwarding address or yours does not forward to your psu.edu account, please put in a helpdesk ticket and let us know.  We'll help you to set your forwarding to avoid a disruption in service.
Further information is available at:  https://intranet.libraries.psu.edu/home/itech/emailmigration/forwarding.html

FAQ:

Q:  After the library webmail service has been discontinued on May 12 will I still receive email sent to my psulias.psu.edu account?
A:  Yes, until March 2011 your mail will continue to be received by your psulias.psu.edu account and forwarded to your psu.edu email account and you'll be able to receive it through an email client such as Eudora or Thunderbird and Penn State Webmail.  After March of 2011 the psulias.psu.edu address will no longer be available to you.

Q:  Will I still be able to access and use global email addresses after the library webmail service has been discontinued on May 12?
A:  Yes, you will still be able to send mail to library global email addresses through psu.edu email by typing in the full global email address in the To field.  (e.g., To:  ulibs@psulias.psu.edu).  You can still access our list of global email lists at:  https://psulias.psu.edu/gml/list.  Global email lists will be migrated to a psu email service in the future but still function for now.

Q:  Will my psulias.psu.edu mailboxes still work after the library webmail service has been discontinued on May 12?
A:  Yes, you will need to configure your email client to check the mailbox account prior to May 12.  If you need assistance in configuring the client, please put in a helpdesk ticket and we'll be glad to help you with this. These accounts will be phased out and replaced with another service by March 2011.

Additional information is available on our website under Email migration in the left navigation bar.
The Email migration FAQ on this site outlines  https://intranet.libraries.psu.edu/home/itech/emailmigration/faq.html

If you have any questions or concerns please contact I-Tech
