How to Remove a Blog Tag

Introduction


This instruction set will teach you how to delete a Blog tab from your main dashboard page.  A Blog tab is the tab at the top of your main dashboard that directs users to your Blog page, almost like a hyperlink.  By deleting this tab you are deleting the ability of the users to directly connect to your Blog page.


Materials and Time


·      A computer with internet access

·      Roughly 5 minutes


Preparation


1.  Log into the blog site at http://www.blogs.psu.edu

2.  Open the main dashboard at the top of the page

Removing the Blog Tab


1.  On your dashboard, locate Design, and click on Templates

2.  Scroll down to the "Template" Module section

3.  Click on the "Navigation Template" link


Note: Make sure you click on the link "Navigation."  Do not select the check mark


4.  Highlight the third line of code and delete it


WARNING! Deleting the wrong line of code can be DEVASTATING to your web page.  Refer to the screen shot below for visual confirmation.

5.  Save changes at the bottom of the page

6.  Publish your page by clicking the publish button


Note:  After following these steps the Blog Tab is removed from the main page, but you also have to delete the widget sidebar.  Follow the next steps to complete this task.


Removing the Widget Sidebar


1.  Navigate back to your blog dashboard

2.  Locate the "Design tab " and click on Widgets

3.  Under "Widget Sets" click "Main Sidebar"


Note:  Make sure you select the title "Main Sidebar."  Do not select the check mark.


4.  Drag the "Recent Entries Expanded box" from the Installed Widgets Column to the Available Widgets Column.

5.  Save changes at the bottom of the page

6.  Publish your page by clicking the publish button

This instruction set works. It it also very clear and easy to follow.

Good job! The instructions were very easy to follow.

Needing internet access at the beginning seems almost non useful. The navigation step could use a screen shot. Also, the tab is disabled but isn't gone.
