How to Narrate and Link a PowerPoint
Introduction
In this tutorial we will be guiding you through the process of creating, uploading, and linking to a narrated PowerPoint Presentation. The video tutorial below will give visual instruction. For further clarification, written instructions can be found below. If you do not need the PowerPoint Narration and want the PowerPoint to be embedded, go to the How to Embed a PowerPoint without Narration Tutorial.
NOTE: PowerPoint, a microphone, and account at blogs.psu.edu are required.
The screencast below will provide detailed steps used in this process. Beneath the video tutorial is a list of steps to follow along. The screencast tutorial will provide a visual aid to each task used to narrate and link a powerpoint.

Preparing your PowerPoint
- Open your PowerPoint presentation.
- Click, Slide Show
- In the menu (directly below Slide Show) there are two options for recording the narration for your presentation:
Record Narration (This will be your final narration.)
Rehearse Timings (This option is for practicing.)
NOTE: Double check that your microphone is set up and working correctly.
- Save PowerPoint with your final recorded narration. (Both .ppt and .pptx work.)
You may close out of PowerPoint at this point, as it's not necessary to keep open for the remainder of the tutorial.
Uploading the file
- Access your blog dashboard at blogs.psu.edu.
- Hover the mouse over the Create option.
- Click Upload File in the drop down menu and a window will pop up.
- Click the Browse button.
- Click Open once you've found and selected your PowerPoint file.
- Click the Upload button and File Options will appear in the same window.
- Uncheck the box next to Create a new entry using this uploaded file.
- Click Finish.
Manage Assets will appear at the top of the page. The file is saved as an asset on your account; from this point on, you will be able to access the PowerPoint directly from your dashboard.
Adding a link
- Click the title of your PowerPoint, in the table under Manage Assets.
- Edit Assets appears; click on Embed Asset and a URL will appear.
Ex. http://www.personal.psu.edu/username/blogs/nameofblog/filename.pptx
- Copy the URL; Right Click on the highlighted URL and select Copy.
- Hover over Create and select Entry or Page.
- Type the text you want to use as your PowerPoint link.
Ex. Biology Presentation
- Highlight the same text and click the chain link icon in the Body toolbar (7th icon from the left). A pop-up will appear.
- Enter the URL from step 15; Right Click in the text box and select Paste.
- Click OK.
You will notice that the text you highlighted is now blue and underlined. The text will show up in your blog as a functioning link after you save your entry or page and publish your site.
The PowerPoint link is not to be confused with an embedded presentation- a miniature version of the PowerPoint seen directly within an entry or on a page. When your blog audience clicks your link, Microsoft PowerPoint or Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer will open and the presentation will be available for observation.
