How to Add Pages and Order Tabs on the Navigation Bar

Introduction:

This instruction set will show you how to add pages and order tabs on a website menu bar. A page is a tab on the top of a blog site that directs the site to a screen of new information. Tabs are the sub-dividers that are linked to the pages. To add a page and change the order should take no longer than a minute. Follow these steps to first add pages, and then re-order them.

The screencast below will provide detailed steps used in this process. Beneath the video tutorial is a list of steps to follow along. The screencast tutorial will provide a visual aid to each task used in adding pages and ordering tabs on the navigation bar.

Screencast Tutorial

 Adding Pages

1.      Open up your dashboard

2.        1. Select Create.

a. Choose Page.

3.        2.  Add the title and desired text.

4.        3. For the tag, type @topnav

5.        4. Save the modifications.

6.        5. Hit Publish (looks like a refresh icon, to the right of tools).

 Re-Ordering Tabs

1.        1. Now go to manage

a. Select pages

2.        2. Select the page you would like to be in a new order

3.        3. On the right hand side, under publishing, change the published date

a. The most recently published date will be on the left hand side

b. If you want something to be last, change the published date to be the least recent

4.       4. Hit Save and Publish again.

Note: Home and Blog will always be the first two pages listed at the top left of the screen.

Conclusion

If these steps are followed, one should easily be able to add and reorder pages on a Penn State Blog. If difficulties are experienced in reordering tabs, a common mistake is changing the date incorrectly. To avoid this, go back and check the publishing dates to make sure the change is being made to move the page to the left or the right.
