How To Add a Large File

In this instruction set, you will learn how to put large files in your instruction set. This will allow you to have files that exceed the 50 MB file limit.  In this instruction set, you will upload the file to your PASS space and have your blog link to it.


Materials


-Computer

-Internet connection

-Large File that is needed to be uploaded

-Blog

-PASS Space

-5-10 minutes of time to devote to this task


Saving Files to your PASS Space


  1. Log into the PASS Explorer.
  2. Open the www folder in the PASS Explorer.

  3. www.png






  4. Click the Upload button which will appear at the top of the screen.

  1. Click Browse and locate your file.
  2. Upload your file.
  3. You have now saved your file in your PASS space.


Accessing the File from your Blog


  1. Log into the Blogs at PSU in a new window.

 Note: Your dashboard should appear.


  1. Create an Entry.  This will be found under the Create tab.cree entry.png
  2. Return to the PASS Explorer window.
  3. Highlight your large file.
  4. Click the Info button on the left side of the widow.

  1. Highlight and copy the file address that is found at the top of the new dialog box.

/pass/users/<a>/<b>/<username>/www/<filename>

Warning: This is an example file name.


  1. Return to Create Entry Page.cree entry.png
  2. Highlight text that you wish to make the hyperlink.hyperlink.png
  3. Paste the file address to the hyperlink dialog box.
  4. Replace the beginning of the file address with www.personal.psu.edu/<username>


Old File Name:

/pass/users/<a>/<b>/<username>/www/<filename>


New File Name:

http://www.personal.psu.edu/<username>/<filename>


Note: This is what the new file address will look like.



11. Click OK.

12. Publish the entry when your blog is complete.

13.  You have finished.

I dont see the pass explorer on the left side of the penn state portal. I suggest logging into your webmail. the portal is on the top right

Also suggest editing the hyperlink in the blog before you make the hyperlink. It was a little confusing to get the link to work in the small hyperlink box
