Creating a Hyperlink: Capturing a Screenshot, Editing and Uploading the Image

Introduction

 

In this tutorial, we will teach you how to create a smooth and informative link to outside content. When you arrive at the link's location, we will show you how to capture a screenshot, edit the image with paint and upload the final image to your Penn State Blog. Creating smooth links will create a more professional look than simply copying the URL and pasting it to your web page (http ://...). The video below uses an image of Penn State University Park map as an example, but the same method applies to most outside sources or images online.

 

The entire process should not take more than several minutes. Enhancing a link and editing and uploading a Screen shot should take only a few minutes depending on how much editing is required.

 

NOTE: This instruction set is specifically targeted to PC users.

 

Essential materials: Computer; PC with Internet Explorer or Firefox.

-How to Create a Hyperlink-

 

Creating an entry

 

     1) Open up the dashboard

 

     2) Under "create" section, select "entry"

 

NOTE: Creation of a new page follows the same procedures.

 

 

     3)  Write the title and content of the body

 

 

 

Attaching a copied URL to an intended link title

 

    4) Open up a new tab and find the desired web page and copy the URL.

 

    5) Now go back to the dashboard tab, write or find an intended link title and then highlight the link title by dragging the mouse.  (When choosing a title for the link chooses something that quickly describes the link in about five words or less).

 

    6) Then click the "link" button. By clicking the "link" button, a new window box will pop up. Paste the URL in the box and hit OK.

 

 

 

Reviewing the entry before it is published

 

     7) Now, review the final entry. Hit "preview" to make sure that the link is  

         working properly

 

 

 

Re-editing the entry if needed

 

     8) Check any mistakes; click the hyperlink and check if it directs to the correct  

         webpage. 

   If the link does not work, click "Re-Edit this entry" and then repeat the steps.

 

     9) Click "Save this entry" button to publish the entry.

 

NOTE that this process will take up to few seconds.

         

Finally, review the final work by clicking "view site."

 

 

-How to Edit a Screenshot of the Link with Paint-

Creating an entry

 

     1) Open up the dashboard

 

 2) Under "create" section, select "entry"

     3)  Write the title and content of the body

 

 

 

Finding and editing a desired image by 'Paint'

 

     4) Find a desired image on the web and either copy the image by right clicking or pressing "print screen cap, PRTSC" button located on the right corner of the keyboard.

 

     5) Open up 'Paint' and paste the image. Then proceed to edit the image as  

         needed.  

NOTEL: If the image is too large, resize the image by cutting the core portion.

                        

   6) Save this final image to the computer. And then open up the dashboard in  

       order to upload  the image.

WARNING: Make sure to save the image as JPG or JPEG format.

 

 

 

Inserting the edited image in the entry: Uploading the image

 

     7) Click "Insert Image." By clicking "insert image", it will direct to a new window.   

 

     8) Select "upload new image" and hit "browse" then find the edited image saved on the computer.

 

     9) Now, hit "Open" and then click "upload." It will direct to a next step.

 NOTE: Make sure box named, "display image in entry" is checked.

 

 Choose a preferable set of alignment and finally click "finish."

 

 NOTE: Uploading the final image can take up to several seconds depending on the 

size of the image or the speed of the internet connection.

           

 

Reviewing the entry before it is published

 

     11) Now, review the entry created by hitting "preview" to make sure that the final image is correctly uploaded and aligned.

 

 

 

Re-editing the entry if needed

 

     12) Check any mistakes;

           if there are any mistakes, click "Re-Edit this entry" and repeat the steps.

 

     13) "Save this entry" button to publish the entry.

NOTE that this process will take up to few seconds.

 

Finally, review the final work by clicking "view site."
