[ Short Biography ]

Jian Huang has been a PhD student and research assistant advised by Prof. C. Lee Giles in the College of Information Sciences and Technology, Pennsylvania State University since August 2005. He became a Ph.D. candidate in May 2006 and passed his comprehensive exam in August 2007. In the summer of 2007, he was a research intern in the Machine Learning group in Yahoo! Research, mentored by Dr. Omid Madani.

Prior to his PhD studies, he received his B.Sc degree in 2005 from Department of Computer Science and Engineering in Fudan University, Shanghai, China. In 2004, he was a Chun-Tsung research scholar in the AI Lab of National Tsing Hua Unversity, Taiwan.

Jian co-chaired the IST Graduate Symposium, an annual event for interdisciplinary researchers in Penn State and surrounding areas. He also volunteered in the Operation Salute event and in the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum.
