Many of these links are particularly useful to the Insect Taxonomy Laboratory course I taught recently, but they may very well have applications for other courses as well. Enjoy!

Tree of Life

This useful link to the Tree of Life website is great for exploring not only insect taxonomy, but the position of the insects and other organisms within the whole scheme of life on this planet. An excellent resource for curious students and teachers alike.

National Center for Biotechnology Information

This government website contains a treasure trove of useful links. One of my favorites is GenBank, which allows the submission, browsing, and searching of gene sequences from a myriad of organisms.

PSU Entomology Extension Homepage

The extension page at PSU's Entomology Department website offers great resources for anyone who wants to prepare to teach ENT 314, or has a general interest in local insects, especially those of agricultural or public concern.

What's That Bug

An absolutely GREAT webpage featuring images of many common and interesting images, with expert backup that allows users to identify the insects they find, or submit them for identification. A must see for entomologists of any level.

Schreyer Institute For Teaching Excellence

The Schreyer Institute at Penn State is a great place for information on assessments, teaching tools, classroom structuring, as well as offering courses designed to help graduate assistants in particular to become better teachers. Definitely worth checking out!

Gordon's Introduction to the Classifcation of Insects

This website is a great place for younger students to get started. It offers great background and overview information, and makes sometimes boring or difficult concepts easier to manage.
