The American Democracy Project (ADP) is a national initiative designed to promote education for citizenship.  The project began in 2003 as a partnership between the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and The New York Times. There are now some 229 participating colleges and universities, and the ADP has hosted national and regional meetings, a national assessment project, and a number of campus initiatives, including voter education and registration drives, curriculum revision projects, campus audits, speaker series, and various special events and awards programs.  For more information, and to see if your college or university is on the list of participating schools, visit the ADP Project page on the AASCU website or the Knowledge Network website sponsored by The New York Times

Even if your school is not part of the ADP, of course, you can still do a variety of service projects, many of which make a significant contribution with little time or money. Here's one example, featuring a student organization I advise.
