| International Air Show, Hillsboro, Oregon | July 2006 |

Click here to go straight to my photos without the "National Geographic" descriptions!

I never saw an Airshow before, rest alone even go to the crappy Armed Forces Day presentations in Bangladesh. Well... I am a peace-loving (and war-hating) guy, nowhere near guns or tanks! But the International Air Show came to Hillsboro, and again we packed up for a whole day to spend at the otherwise tiny 'mostly-for-corporate-uses' Hillsboro Airport. And with awe I realized that flying can be an art too.... All that I knew about flying was commercial jets with 100 or so crammy seats packed together -- a place where you don't want to be for 6/7 hours.

Wilbur and Orville Wrights were geniuses... Maybe Icarus too, just for the (virtually suicidal) motivation...

Oh, the next day an old British jet took off from the airport and crashed near our place, killing the pilot (a lawyer from CA), and destroying a few homes. Icarus' legacy... or just plain bad luck (and arcane flying machinery) ?

Hillsboro International Airshow

F-16 or F-22? I am not good at identifying these?

Hillsboro International Airshow

Corsette from the Second World War era in the back. I don't what the other one's called.

Hillsboro International Airshow

Corsette... Huge, I wonder how they could take off so easily from the aircraft carriers and have enough fuel to bomb Japanese islands and get back fine...

Hillsboro International Airshow

Biplanes from around the 20s/30s were furthered improved as automobile engineering got better and better.

Hillsboro International Airshow

I am not on the ancient plane. Guess why... :D

Hillsboro International Airshow

Fighter jets (?) or bomber (?) or anti-tank fighters (?) all lined up.

Hillsboro International Airshow

A small plane, probably for reconnaissance purposes (?)

Hillsboro International Airshow

Paratrooper with the Star-Spangled Banner.

Hillsboro International Airshow

F-22 soaring over the control tower. Deafened us with its roaring turbines.

Hillsboro International Airshow

Mt. St. Helens -- yes, the volcano -- ominously looking on to the runway.

Hillsboro International Airshow

C-8 (?) transport plane, the one that dropped off the parachutists.

Hillsboro International Airshow

Weird-looking transport (?) plane.

Hillsboro International Airshow

Helicopter doing tricks for the kids.

Hillsboro International Airshow

Mt. Hood -- the 'good' volcano -- and the plane.

Hillsboro International Airshow

This is probably an anti-tank fighter.

Hillsboro International Airshow

The same one. My camera almost caught all of it in the frame. But it was flying sooo fast...

Hillsboro International Airshow

Ancient and modern -- equally proud of their capacities!

Hillsboro International Airshow

People get paid for this????? I wonder what's his insurance policy!

Hillsboro International Airshow

F-22 and F-1!! :D

Hillsboro International Airshow

ZOOOOOM!! "Aghhh, my hair's on fire!"

Hillsboro International Airshow

F-22's exhaust, or whatever it's called.

Hillsboro International Airshow

"Now where does this tunnel go...?"

Hillsboro International Airshow

Hmm, I would get into it if I could... too bad!

Hillsboro International Airshow

The Corsette shows its back to Mt. Hood!

Hillsboro International Airshow

"Hey, is that bubble over Mt. St. Helens a flying saucer?" Anyone from Discovery/NGM/Sci-Fi to buy my photo?

Hillsboro International Airshow

F-22 and Corsette -- Ancient and Modern. Both did so much to win wars and turn the game around.

Hillsboro International Airshow

Birds of prey!

Hillsboro International Airshow

Father and son pilots showing who's better!

Hillsboro International Airshow

"Whoops, you almost knocked me out, son!"

Hillsboro International Airshow

Finally an Autogyro or gyroplane. This thing doesn't even have an engine to keep its blades rolling. Its blades rotate being driven by aerodynamic forces alone!
