April 2008 Archives

Facebook

|
I have created a Facebook Page for the Physical and Mathematical Sciences Library so users can become fans of the page, see picture, and find events at the library.  Working with the Public Relations and Marketing department at the University Libraries, I have implemented Facebook Ads for the promotion of our regular Friday Flicks film series.

Learning Guides

|
I have created subject guides for Mathematics, Statistics, and Patent Resources.  For Spring 2008, I created a course guide for ENGL202C English writing course for science and technology.  For Fall 2007, I created course guides to library resources for IST440W Information Sciences and Technology Integration and Problem Solving, SRA211 IST Threat of Terrorism and Crime, and PSU017 introductory course for IST.

Social Networking Podcasts

|

The Penn State Libraries Social Networking Group explores various new technologies (some that may even fall outside of the social networking designation) and how best to implement them at the Libraries. Because of the ubiquitous nature of technology, our efforts often involve various departments in the Libraries and outside.

We have recorded some of our informal meeting as audio podcasts available through iTunesU.  I have moderated a discussion of training in social networking tools and another on eScience.

Science Resources Podcasts

|
Working with fellow science librarian, Kathy Fescemyer, I created the second podcast in the series "Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere: Science Resources at Penn State" where we focused on the electronic resource Access Science.  Both podcasts are available through iTunesU with slides or audio only.

Graphic Novels in the Sciences

|

The University Libraries invited Juniata College Assistant Professor of Biology and cartoonist Jay Hosler to speak about Graphic Novels (and Comics) in the Sciences and their role in higher education.
