More Stability Analysis

As an introduction to the subject of advection equations I want to discuss two more methods for stability analysis.  The most important is von Neumann or Fourier analysis.  See the example in vneumann.pdf and discussion in Roache's text.  Another interesting method was introduced many years ago by Tony Hirt (J. Comp. Phys, Vol 2, p. 339), and is closely related to the error analysis that we've already done.
