NOTE: As always, the pictures you see below are part of a much larger set. All pics can be seen on my personal pics page.
Well, a lot has certainly happened since my last post almost a month ago! Maddison is growing and growing and becoming more and more aware of her environment every day. Maddison has begun to laugh little by little. We really have to work hard to get a little chuckle out of her right now, but we know that giggles will fill our house before too long. She has pretty much mastered head control and standing strength. She still resists tummy time, but she now shows the ability to push herself up with her arms for a few minutes before she starts flailing and crying. I have the feeling that she'll be one of those babies that scoots around instead of crawls. Only time will tell. Speaking of scooting instead of crawling, she's on her way to doing that. She is doing her best to sit up without support. This sometimes leads to spitting up if she works those stomach muscles too quickly after eating, but that's why we have burp clothes and bibs. ;-) She isn't quite sitting up without support, but she'll be darned if she won't try as hard as she can.

Maddison attended her first Penn State tailgate back on September 19. We didn't go into the game, but we had a great time stopping by a few tailgates (thanks Gene, Kathy, Dave, Renee and everyone!!) on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon. We did get some good pics to remember Maddison's first outing (of many) to Beaver Stadium.

And what a better way to end a good weekend than with a nap with Dad during the 3rd quarter of the Steelers game....

Unfortunately, most folks were inside the game at this point, so we just had to take turns.....

We had a wonderful day, and Maddison was a picture of baby perfection. She met a bunch of new people, and that's just exhausting!

Maddison also spent her first days in daycare over the past two weeks. I think is is much harder on Michelle and I than it is for her. From what they tell us at daycare, she is normally very content to sit and study the things and people around her. They say she is a joy to care for, and "they wish all babies were so easy to look after." I will say one thing, kudos to the staff in the nursery at daycare....they had the bravery to try a crib nap. Well, wouldn't you know that she took all her naps in her crib that day and by the day after, she no longer slept in her car seat. She now sleeps perfectly fine in her crib at home for naps, and more importantly through the night. She has also reliably found her thumb, which helps her soothe herself and makes bedtime so much easier for now.
The downside of that is that she spent one day at daycare and ended up with some sniffles. Well, those sniffles stayed around about a week, but didn't get any worse....until this past Friday....the same day her "Aunt Kinsey" and "Uncle Josh" came for a long weekend visit. Long story short she ended up with a low grade fever Friday night, as well as a problem with "stuff" in her eyes. Well, I called the doc (or the answering service made the doc call me back) and she went in to be looked at on Saturday. You guessed it, double ear infections. The good thing there is that she still ate well and never got horribly cranky. So, hopefully we caught it before it bugged her too much. Being sick can be awful cute sometimes though.

I mentioned Kinsey and Josh coming up for a visit. Well, Maddison had her first dose of good ol' Amoxicillin Saturday afternoon. We spent that afternoon and evening just hanging around the house, watching football and napping. Well, by that evening Maddison was feeling MUCH better and was pretty much back to her old self.
By Sunday, she was our little Maddison again....
