Just a quick update.....for those of you that don't know, Michelle didn't pass her one hour sugar test earlier this month. So, she had to do the two hour test last Friday. We got notification yesterday that she passed that one with flying colors. No gestational diabetes, yay!
Ok, back to work.
So first things first.....we had a bit of a reason for concern the past day or two. One of the multitudes of tests Michelle has started (the quad blood screen) came back with slightly elevated levels of a certain protein. So, long story short - it was an indicator of a possibility of spina bifida. Quite a concern.
Now, I'm not much of a worrier. So, I immediately did what I always do in situations like that.....I went directly into research mode. Upon reading more about the test and how many false positives there are associated with this test, the more I realized there was probably nothing to worry about. Not that I wasn't still concerned, but less so...I hope I can be like this throughout parenthood. I hope to make sure I stay even keel and not get overly uptight.
Michelle said she wasn't "freaking out." Not sure if I believe that or not. At any rate, she didn't show it...so I think that's also a good thing. Both of us being able to handle a situation like this without jumping to conclusions or getting worked up can really come in handy years down the road.
So....was there actually a problem? Absolutely not. We went in for an ultrasound today and neither the tech nor the Dr. are concerned whatsoever. Quite a relief.
The cool thing is since the Dr. ordered it based upon a blood screen it's another bonus ultrasound! We got to see the heart in perfect rhythm and beating strong. Arms, legs, hands, feet, head...brain is there and looks good...several other organs look fine and most important is the spine is perfectly normal and we saw it for ourselves. Whew! We still have to wait until Feb. 9 to know the gender. The tech said she couldn't really tell with certainty, so we have to wait. I have new pics that I'll post tomorrow once I get them scanned.
Anyone that has had a baby before knows about the "list." It's the list of all the things that need to be taken care of...and we crossed off a big one this week. We actually chose a daycare. Several factors played into our decision, but the biggest one was part-time care. Michelle and I have decided that we are both going to work 4 - 10 hour days so that each of us has a special day per week with the baby as it grows. Michelle gets Wednesdays, I'm taking Fridays. Really looking forward to that too! Not to mention this place includes almost everything for less money than just about anywhere else AND there hasn't been any complaints filed with the state. Clean record, everything included, part-time care; all for less than pretty much anywhere else. Pretty much ended up a no-brainer for us. :-)
Well, I'm off to relax and possibly go to sleep. I was up at 3:45 this morning for work, and just went ahead and worked through after the morning stuff was done. Guess I've got plenty of those kinds of days ahead of me. :-D
So I spent January 4 - 11 in San Francisco at a conference...and I realized on the drive to the airport that I already missed Michelle and our child. That's not to say I didn't miss Michelle on previous trips, but it's...different. I can't really explain how, but it just is. The drive home from the airport was one of the longest it seems I've ever done. Maybe leaving SF at 9:40 pm PST on Saturday and getting home around 1:00 pm EST on Sunday had something to do with it....maybe not.
We went for another appointment yesterday, and had no problems picking up a heartbeat this time. It's really a cool thing to hear the baby's heartbeat so strong but then also be able to pick up Michelle's heartbeat much slower and muted in the background. Michelle is doing well, no complaints for the Dr. and the Dr. was happy with what he heard, so it was a pretty quick in-and-out visit.
We've pretty much narrowed down our daycare choices to two or three and will be deciding soon. We're also pretty sure we'll be able to work it where we will both work 4x10 during the week, and that gives each of us a special extra day home with the baby. Not to mention only paying for 3 days of daycare per week. :-D
That's it for now, but the next one is big news! We are having the "big" ultrasound on Feb. 9!
