As I have been planning lessons, I have come to appreciate how important it is to learn more about not only the topic I am teaching but also to learn more about the students, the community, the curriculum and the standards which are driving my lessons. This has become especially apparent after gaining some experience writing third grade plans and then trying to write plans for the kindergarten classroom with which I am involved. I am coming to appreciate all the different forces with shape and drive each lesson I teach.

Reflection and inquiry are two parts of teaching which I find to be nearly as valuable the time in the classroom. In fact, I have seen first hand that without these reflection and inquiry, the classroom experiences and lessons would not be as enjoyable or successful. My reflective journals have proven to be a way for me to grow as a teacher in my thinking, planning, and executing. Overall, I know that inquiry and reflection have already helped me grow leaps and bounds from the beginning of the year and will continue to help me develop into a better teacher.
