Via a partnership with the Bridgeman Art Library, the Grove Dictionary of Art Online provides access to 100,000 images of architecture, the decorative arts, painting, and sculpture. The Dictionary also points to more than 24,000 images found on external websites. In addition to images, this resource includes 45,000 articles on every aspect of the visual arts--- painting, sculpture, graphic arts, architecture, decorative arts and photography---from prehistory to the present day. Compiled over a period of 15 years, it represents the work of more than 6,800 scholars from around the world, each writing on his or her own specialist field of study. If you are trying to find examples of fine art on the Web, many museums around the world are developing their own "digital libraries," which contain images of objects in their respective collections. While many of these resources are still free, others are only available via online subscriptions.

On the Web since July 1999, this multimedia database includes over 65,000 artworks from the collections of over 30 major museums and cultural institutions in the U.S. and Canada, such as the Art Institute of Chicago, the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Library of Congress, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Available to universities, colleges, schools, and public libraries. Important Note: This resource is not free, but users may browse a sampling of images at the AMICO website.
