The Bamford Swing Trainer was invented by Reg Bamford who is, as of this writing (Feb, 2002) the number one ranked player in the world. It's a Noah's arc shaped pair of parallel wood peices separated by the width of a mallet. The trainer keeps your swing on-line as you take practice shots.
Reg places the swing trainer on the west side of the court near hoop one. He aligns the trainer such that his shots will hit the hoop four upright. This gives him a target to shoot at; a target that won't move as ball after ball is precisely delivered to its destination with the aid of the swing trainer.
Reg collects the balls, and takes them to mid-court. He then shoots the peg from the east boundary unaided by the swing trainer. He's been know to hit as many as 63 out of 64 shots at the peg.
The Bamford Swing Trainer was built by John Hobbs. You can read a bit more about it on John's web site.
Anyone in the UK interested in obtaining a Bamford Swing Trainer should email John at HobbsMall@aol.com.
The swing trainer we use at our club is modeled after the Bamford Swing Trainer, but altered for people who have high casting swings. Both the back and the front panels of the swing trainer are much higher than Reg's model. See pictures below.
