Read a letter from Charles Umbenhauer, included stats for 2009, 388, 993 registered motorcycles, 10.9% reduction in crashes; Rendell declared May Motorcycle Safety & Awareness month again; Lobby Day was 4/20, group to ride down and meet with local politicians to voice our stance on legislative issues, ksu 7;00 at Citgo in Potters Mills, stop for breakfast, 9:45 appt with Kerry Benninghoff; 4/19 deadline to register to vote in 5/18 primary; Rendell will be leaving office, changes in legislation that affect motorcyclists can be on the horizon as a result; watch the noise, we need to police ourselves or government will do it for us; Hal-Scott Conklin has voiced support

Thanks to Sally for filling in for Linda during her absence; Thanks to Popcorn for all of her help; 203 total members; new member, Tom Neff, in attendance today, rides a 1500 Suzuki Boulevard, WELCOME TOM!

1.

OSAL-Peggy Snyder and Hal will be presenting to AARP driving instructors in Lewisburg on 4/27;  WPSU is considering doing a radio and TV show about OSAL, although the TV show is not likely; Somerset did one OSAL presentation, Clarion did two and Hal presented in State College on 3/24; May is Motorcycle Safety & Awareness month, ABATE saved $25,000 because PennDot payed to have the signs printed; at the Grand Board meeting there was discussion about OSAL stickers, OSAL budget is $1500, have a quote to make 5000 stickers for $1800, video would have been $7500 to produce; Radar-it’s a HUGE accomplishment to get in the AARP; Natalie-kudos to Hal for all the work he continues to do even though he’s been very sick!, requested volunteers to help Hal with OSAL presentations.

1.

Bike Show-Kim-Saturday July 24th @ the Roadhouse, 12pm-9pm, meeting prior; DJ from 1-6, band 6-9; tentative schedule-bike show registration 12-1, bike judging 1:30, tattoo contest 2:00, announce bike show winners 3:00, bike games following; goal is 30 sponsors @ $50 each for bike show T, have 13; working on getting vendors, please see a committee member if you have any ideas; planning on roasting pig and beef with sides; tickets-$15 includes participation in all activities, food and beverages, $5 includes entrance (not food, participation in contests or games) and beverages, day of event only; next committee mtg 4/17

Bike Raffle-Keith-Brian Focht in charge of raffle tickets-see him or Rachael to sign out tickets; ride to Dubois HD to pick up bike, Sat 5/1, ksu 11:00 Valley Vista Sheetz, going on ride: Brian, Cliff, Dan, Tom, Speed, Tag, Bill A, Greg, Scott, George, Danny, Steen, Bill & Tina, Jody, Bill P, Curt, Mule; ride will continue to the Camouflage Inn

DJ Emery-Mike- through the Nittany Leathernecks, DJ has a fund with $32,000 that he has not touched, and a fund for his daughter’s education that has $30.000, rep of the Leathernecks in charge of funds recommended using our donation toward something else; Stew-his daughter’s education will be paid for by the VA; Motion by Steen to donate $385 to daughter’s college fund, second by Mike, motion failed; motion by Steen to donate $385 to DJ’s fund through the Leathernecks seconded by Stew, motion passed

4.

Toy Run-Hal-next committee mtg 4/20 at the Salvation Army 7:00pm, all cmt members have been informed; Toy Run after party scheduled to be at the Roadhouse

5.

Spikes-Kim- Bike Night Sunday 7/11, with poker run that can include ABATE Gold Star supporters, begins at noon

6.

Meeting time-Keith-vote will be taken at next meeting about what day and time to hold meetings

 

New Business ideas

 

1.

Road Captain-Bill-thanks to all of those who volunteered to be Road Captains; safety is the #1 priority on group rides, be sure to have your bike in safe working order and have all credentials with you

2.

MOM- SPEED WALK!  Congratulations Speed!  Thank you for consistently and enthusiastically supporting CLR and ABATE of PA!  You are a tremendous ambassador for the causes of ABATE and your patriotic spirit is an inspiration to all of us!  Thank you, Speed, for all you do for us and for supporting what we set forth to accomplish with your words of wisdom!

50/50 – $60, $30 to Chapter and $30 to winner Curt Stump (also today’s birthday boy!)

Tom Potter spoke at the beginning of the meeting to dispel any rumors about the purchase or closing of the Roadhouse, said business and bike nights will continue as usual, plans to have a DJ and vendors for bike nights
