My name is Garrett Michael Miller. I'm originally from Conneaut Lake, PA, where I have lived my entire life. Conneaut Lake is a small resort town in northwest PA, a popular summer haven for Pittsburgh vacationers.
I realized a particular interest in computers at a very young age. From my first time using an Apple IIe, to finally getting a family Macintosh Performa 638CD, I was constantly fascinated and enraptured by the entire world of the Internet that beige box opened to me. I then took my interest in computers and began a local computer repair service at the age of thirteen. I did everything from basic PC repair, to Internet connection setup and small-scale networking. By the time I had graduated from high school, I had been setting up and securing local area networks for area businesses, school districts, law enforcement agencies, and medical practices. I attempted to show those I worked for what enhanced connectivity and communication could be provided through the use of information technology. I soon found through my work that the human element is completely inseparable from any technological solution, which led me straight to Penn State's College of IST.
Aside from information technology, I also have many other interests. Coming from a lake town, I positively love boating, skiing, swimming, and sailing. I also have a great appreciation for music, having played both trumpet and guitar in a number of ensembles, and I currently play with the Penn State Pride of the Lions Pep Band at home basketball games.
