THE CLINTON PROPAGATED LIE ON PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION
by Gary L. Morella
June 20, 1996
An open letter to President Clinton.
Dear Mr. President:
As a person preaching "moral values", why do you continue to propagate the lie
that abortions performed via the partial birth abortion procedure in late pre-
gnancy are extremely rare? This flies in the face of the well documented
testimony before Congress by the "preeminent" physician in this field, Dr.
Martin Haskell, who is on record as saying that upwards of 80% of the thousands
of partial birth abortions are "elective" and have nothing to do with the
"health" of the mother, much less the danger of loss of life. Thus, a
statement to the effect that "abortions peformed late in pregnancy almost
always occur when a woman's life or health is endangered and in cases of
severe fetal abnormality where the baby would have no chance of survival after
birth is totally fallacious." In fact, it's a bald face lie! You know very
well that "health" as interpreted by the judiciary can mean anything as the
Boxer amendment, if passed, would have rendered this bill meaningless. To say
that this hideous method is nothing more than a "disturbing process" as some
have argued is to show how anesthetized the United States of American has
become to killing children since Roe v. Wade. It's more than a "disturbing
process", Mr. President, it's barbaric. I'm ashamed as an American, a Vietnam
era Navy veteran, that my government has given tacit approval to infanticide
under the pathetic excuse of otherwise "superseding the medical judgment of
trained physicians and criminalizing medical procedures they deem necessary to
safeguard the health of the mother." How can intelligent people make such
vacuous arguments? How can you look yourself in the mirror knowing what you
are being a party to? Do you have no conscience? A life-of-the-mother
exception IS included with this bill. In fact, every possible attempt must be
made to save the lives of both baby and mother as moral theology teaches that
all life is sacred and of equal importance in that you can never do an evil to
attain a good.
What about the babies, Mr. President? What about their rights as it has been
scientifically proved that life begins at conception. From that time onward,
the unborn child is a living, developing individual with a genetic code unique
to itself, different from the mother's and father's. The baby has its own
blood type, heart, brain, and other organs, and may have differently colored
eyes, hair and complexion. Being dependent on others should not deprive a
helpless human being of fundamental rights. I thought that this country
championed the defenseless of the world. That's what they told us before they
sent us off to Vietnam to die by the tens of thousands. To say that this bill
would "create an unwarranted intrusion into the physician-patient relationship
by preventing physicians from providing necessary medical care to their
patients" totally ignores the unwarranted intrusion into the womb of the mother
killing a defenseless human being entitled to full protection under the
Constitution. As Thomas Jefferson wrote, "the care of human life and
happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only object of good
government." What about medical care to which the baby is entitled? The
abortion issue is not about choice, it's about our children who are not being
allowed to be born by the millions. It's about abdicating our responsibility
as a nation to protect and preserve life in favor of denying this most
fundamental of human rights. It's about saints, priests, rabbis, ministers,
scientists, educators, fathers, mothers, artists, musicians, who will never see
the light of day, a gift to the world from a loving God who is not being allowed
to be God by man who has become god. This legacy of the enlightenment has
ushered in the darkest of ages where wrong has become right in the name of the
Supreme Court declared religion of secular humanism which is being forced on
the U.S. Populace under the politically correct umbrella of multiculturalism
and diversity. This is totally counter to the intent of the founding fathers
who were fleeing state established religion. Abortion is made legal,
homosexuality is declared a right as opposed to a grave disorder evoking moral
concern despite its universal condemnation for time immemorial by a diversity
of opinion hitherto unachieved to include the pagan philosophers Plato and
Aristotle in total agreement with the Christian theologians Augustine and
Thomas Aquinas, and euthanasia is something to aspire to for the good of this
"brave new world" in which we live. For if doctors will accept the money of
parents to kill children (abortion), what's to stop them from accepting the
money of children to kill parents (euthanasia)? We, in this country and in the
world through the pervasive influence of U.N. Conferences like Beijing, are on
a path contrary to the Natural Law written on the hearts of man by his Creator.
When our concern is with adding three sexes to the two of Genesis thereby
attacking the institution of the family instead of irradicating the horrendous
accounts of abuse of women through the forced abortion of girls, and when we
ignore cannibalization of fetuses for "health" reasons as a new form of
marketing for an abortion industry built on the population problem lie
promulgated by International Planned Parenthood (both of which occurring in
China), then mankind is on a one way road to destruction as we will ultimately
have to pay for the consequences of our actions, if not in this life then most
certainly in the next.
In an unprecedented act, the entire hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church in
America in union with the National Council of Catholic Bishops, have formerly
sent you a letter condemning this monstrous act for what it is, the
legalization of what is tantamount to infanticide! The Cardinals
in communion with their Bishops across the country have made it
clear that the Church intends to let Catholics know via all media outlets,
in particular from the pulpit, who is responsible for this outrage. Neither
you nor your supporters in Congress can hide behind the smokescreen
of signing or supporting this bill had a "health of the mother provision been
included." The electorate is not that gullible given the breadth of this
"health" definition on the part of the judiciary which defacto would have
allowed partial birth abortions for almost any reason. How anyone calling
themselves "Catholic", moreover anyone, believer or unbeliever recognizing
the truth of the Natural Law, could ignore this affront to God and the very
foundation of society is beyond comprehension.
How can a "civilized" country allow such an abomination, the heinous killing
of infants, three inches from full protection under the Constitution of the
United States? It was no accident that every pro-life candidate or
incumbant won election in 1994. They were representing the will of a populace
that is solidly against abortion-on-demand by a consistent 2-1 majority. The
numbers against become staggering when asked whether partial birth abortion
is acceptable with even the "pro-choicers" finding this act repellent in the
extreme.
How in the name of all that is sane can we jail and/or fine those who destroy
the eggs of bald eagles and reward those who commit infanticide? There are
reports of these doomed babies slipping out of the grasp of the forceps
of the abortion doctor and still being killed because that was the intent of
the mother. How could something be more wrong than this? It is unfathomable
that Americans have to debate the legalization of murder!
Our family votes as one as do many families across the land.
We are asking our government to do nothing more than the only decision
possible, to uphold the Constitution of the United States, the inalienable
rights of all of its citizens, in particular the most defenseless, and vote to
override the most reprehensible veto in the history of this country.
Never let it be said by you, Mr. President, that you were not told the truth
about what you are doing, that you have been a party to what is rapidly
becoming the holocaust of all holocausts. I hope and pray that you will not
have to use that excuse to an Almighty God Who will ask you at the end, "why
did you do what you did, did you not know any better?"
Sincerely
Gary L. Morella
