EM SC 300 - Professional e-Portfolio Development
EM SC 300 is team-taught by faculty and staff members of the College of
Earth and Mineral Sciences and the Office of Career Services. This
one-credit course meets for one 75 minute session per week in a
technology classroom equipped with networked computers for every
student. Students will be able to enroll in the course for one credit
per year throughout their undergraduate careers, up to a maximum of
four credits. Currently, it is offered each Spring semester.
The EM SC 300 course on Professional e-Portfolio Development is intended to help you, as an undergraduate student in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS), adopt proactive and strategic approaches to planning your Penn State educational experience and developing professional and personal goals for life after graduation. The course's emphasis will be on professional goals for majors in EMS departments: Energy and Geo-Environmental Engineering, Geography, Geosciences, Materials Science and Engineering, and Meteorology.

As a vehicle for reflective learning and professional development, the course will require you to design, create, and maintain an online portfolio that contains evidence of, and reflection on, your curricular, co-curricular, and personal accomplishments. You will learn about yourself and about web publishing, information design, and career planning. You will be assisted by a diverse team that includes an e-portfolio expert, career counselors, an alumni mentor, faculty advisors, a writing coach, and other students, in addition to the course professor.
