e-Portfolio ITS Training Seminars
They basically cover the same general topic areas listed below, however, in e-Portfolio Essentials at Penn State I gear my comments towards faculty, administrators and instructors. In the second seminar, Professional e-Portfolios for Graduate Students, as the name implies, targets the needs of graduate students.
These are free seminars for which you can register at the ITS Training web site at: http://its.psu.edu/training/
Seminar Description
Prerequisite(s): Basic computing skills.
Web-based e-portfolios have become a very popular and powerful way to describe and demonstrate what individuals know and/or can do. This discussion-based session in a computer lab will review the services available at http://portfolio.psu.edu and present the issues and challenges related to including assignments that involve Web publishing, such as e-portfolios, in the courses you teach. This session includes a hands-on section that focuses on the skills necessary to build an e-portfolio or post an assignment on the Web. The services at http://portfolio.psu.edu have been designed to support development of individual Web publishing skills regardless of college, major, or campus location.
Objectives:
- Understand the services available through http://portfolio.psu.edu
- Understand the issues, such as technical support, privacy, copyright, security, and others, related to including Web publishing assignments in the courses you teach
- Get hands-on experience creating and modifying Web pages and adding links, pictures, and tables to them
- Understand the limitations of design and layout of simple Web pages
- Review examples of undergraduate, graduate, and faculty e-portfolios, along with the criteria to evaluate them
