Bills piling up? Just a few years ago I was just like you...you know, I couldn't answer the phone or open the mail either. I really didn't have access to any more money, and these bill collectors would call me and bully me, basically telling me I was a bad person, and that I needed to take responsibility for myself. I had some bill collectors tell me to take out a loan to pay them. Others told me to borrow money from family members. I really didn't know what to do. They would get me in tears, to the point where I wouldn't answer my phone from 8am-9pm because I knew that it would just be someone else wanting money from me that I didn't have. I wasn't a low life like they made it sound. I got in over my head, partly because the credit card companies just kept giving me more and more credit. I held a job and made about $12,000 per year, and I held over $25,000 in credit. Needless to say, now I realize that I was in the credit trap, but back then I really didn't know why I couldn't make ends meet. Things got so bad that I started to borrow from one credit card to pay the other, until I eventually maxed them all out. I tried getting a second job, but by then I was compiling interest and late charges, it was completely out of control. I just couldn't take it any more. When I finally told my mother about what trouble I was in, she suggested to me to call a debt consolidation hotline, and told me that they could help me set up payments, reduce my interest and other fees, so that I could start bringing these balances down. The whole time thinking in my head, that I couldn't pay off these balances if I had 3 lifetimes, I hesitantly called the debt consolidation company, and they really did help me. We went over all my bills and expenses and possible sources of income and they came up with a monthly payment that I could afford. They then contacted my creditors and worked out arrangement with them and the harrassing phone calls and letters just stopped. I finally started to feel like a human being again. I was paying my bills and was still able to eat and answer my phone. If this sounds like you, you are not alone, find a debt consolidation company to help you and you will get things straightened out in no time. They really can help you!
