health-insurance
I really want to say that I have finally made it out in to the
real world now that I am graduating, but that would be a lie.
The
decisions I have made in the last two years of my education
merit enough
experience to say I have seen the 'real world." My
two sons were born
in these last two years and now though it is a small leap out
in to the
job and ominous financial market, I feel strong enough from my
experiences that I can do anything. What lies ahead
is sort of daunting
though because at this point we don't have a house, health
insurance,
medical
insurance, or even a car; we rode bikes everywhere before.
I also
wouldn't say that we have the greatest finances because of the
massive college debt we had accumulated in our combined
twelve years of
college tuition. My parents and I have been
chatting quite frequently these
last couple of months and they gave me more anxiety than
less. My
parents had been in the same situation we are in now and my
father got
sick. He didn't have health insurance or medical
insurance and got put
up in the hospital
for three months. He said that the cost was so
damaging to their finances that they had to declare
bankruptcy within a
year. Now I have been on my parents insurance since
then, but now that I
am graduating I am being dropped. My father had
been recommending I
get some short
term health insurance to get me covered until I find a
good job. Yesterday I finally acquired some short term
medical insurance
for the four of us online and it took affect last night. Now
I feel a
little safer but it will run out in about a month.
Once it does I will
drop the plan and get some temporary insurance until my
benefits kick
in. When it comes to solving our car situation, we have been
looking
through the classifieds for weeks and have our eyes on a
couple different
family cars. I have been saying that I want a
station wagon for a long
time but Liz wants a small sedan instead. I have to
keep telling
myself that this is a transition and it will be over soon so
I can relax a
little bit every day.
