We have finally gotten all of our things moved in to our new home. It took us quite awhile to find the right one and then figure out all of the financial details. I swear I almost went crazy trying to flush out all of the financial stuff. I just know that my mind is not meant to think that way; statistically and like a game show contestant. Now we have finally come to the day where we can move in and start to enjoy our new home. I have gotten all of our old down comforters and our beds set up for the first night in our new home. We have a truck rented tomorrows for us to begin actually moving the bulk of our stuff in. Today I just mad two trips across town some essential for our first night like the bed and the down comforters. I brought over a little bit of food for us to eat our first dinner in this new house. When I walk around in the house and in the big back yard I just think about how much work it has taken for me to get to this point. We both just finished our doctoral degrees in the spring and after a combined twenty year of higher education between us, this seems like the first moment either of us has been allowed to slow down in a decade. There is a creek that runs through our back yard that was the biggest selling point for me because it looks like the creek I used to play in as a child. In the summer, when we looked at the house there were crayfish that crawled around in the rocks while we walked past. It reminded me of when my brothers and I would try to fish for them in our creek. When I saw that I just knew that this was the place that I wanted. Now we have come a long way from the tour to setting up our comfortable new room. When I sleep tonight under my down comforters with my wife I will be hitting a milestone that only seemed a dream a year ago, let alone when we met eight years ago.
I really want to say that I have finally made it out in to the
real world now that I am graduating, but that would be a lie.
The
decisions I have made in the last two years of my education
merit enough
experience to say I have seen the 'real world." My
two sons were born
in these last two years and now though it is a small leap out
in to the
job and ominous financial market, I feel strong enough from my
experiences that I can do anything. What lies ahead
is sort of daunting
though because at this point we don't have a house, health
insurance,
medical
insurance, or even a car; we rode bikes everywhere before.
I also
wouldn't say that we have the greatest finances because of the
massive college debt we had accumulated in our combined
twelve years of
college tuition. My parents and I have been
chatting quite frequently these
last couple of months and they gave me more anxiety than
less. My
parents had been in the same situation we are in now and my
father got
sick. He didn't have health insurance or medical
insurance and got put
up in the hospital
for three months. He said that the cost was so
damaging to their finances that they had to declare
bankruptcy within a
year. Now I have been on my parents insurance since
then, but now that I
am graduating I am being dropped. My father had
been recommending I
get some short
term health insurance to get me covered until I find a
good job. Yesterday I finally acquired some short term
medical insurance
for the four of us online and it took affect last night. Now
I feel a
little safer but it will run out in about a month.
Once it does I will
drop the plan and get some temporary insurance until my
benefits kick
in. When it comes to solving our car situation, we have been
looking
through the classifieds for weeks and have our eyes on a
couple different
family cars. I have been saying that I want a
station wagon for a long
time but Liz wants a small sedan instead. I have to
keep telling
myself that this is a transition and it will be over soon so
I can relax a
little bit every day.
The semester has started once again and I am totally ready to put
my break behind me. It didn't start off bad, but
when I met my
first New
York personal injury attorney, it was all down hill from
there.
I was going to New York on the twenty-seventh to
get settled in
before the madness of New Years eve. The drive from
Pittsburgh to New
York City was just beautiful. It had snowed on Christmas eve
and all of
the areas where there are no houses were like mystical
visions of a
different planet. I was actually a little
disappointed when I began to see
the houses popping up and then the skyline just flushed with
humanity.
The feeling didn't hang around for long because there were
about
ten million people traveling down the same road all thinking
they were
beating the New Year's rush by coming early. Even
though the roads
were packed from all sides, people still drove in the typical
city style
of just forgetting all traffic laws and fighting for space.
While I was
merging on to a new section of highway, a car tried to
squeeze in to a
space about half its size. All I heard was a huge
crunch and the front
end of my car went flying out to the right hitting the car to
my
right.
The next two days, instead of being about parties
and champagne,
were all about accident
attorneys and looking for a personal
injury lawyer in New York.
In had never thought about how you
handle a car accident where you have to visit the hospital.
While I sat
in the triage to get stitches, the nurse handed me a sheet
listing a
good injury
attorney as well as a long list of various kinds of New
York
attorneys. When I flipped it over it was
all about New
York accident
laws which, though important to my situation, were
so dry that I just
couldn't read them for a minute. The doctor in the
ER talked my ear
off about how I shouldn't let his slip, which I was prone to
do, but I
should get a car
accident lawyer right away and sue the pants off of
the other driver. I just wanted to get to bed and forget
about the whole
thing.
In the morning I began my search for two people;
an accident
attorney, and an injury
attorney. Luckily for me, there was no difference
between the two in the phone book. I chose a New York
personal injury
lawyer and told him to just deal with the whole
thing for me. I wanted
to have as little to do with the situation as possible.
I am happy to finally be back in the United States after a long trip to
Asia. My trip was part of my graduate school research in
anthropology. I left for Japan about six months ago and made
my way across the country. Then I flew from south Japan to
China making my way across the country to India. I spent the majority
of my trip inside of India. The research I was working on is
about the cultural heritage of different countries' farmers across East
Asia. I was working mostly within the community of different tea
growers. In Japan I spent about a month visiting about six
different farms. Four of those farms were green tea
farms and these were the large and quite intricate farms. It seemed
that they paid a great deal of attention to the layout in terms of both
practicality as well as aesthetic value. The other two farms
were home to growers of white tea.
They were a bit smaller though they still seemed quite well off for
farmers. When I made the jump to China I was expecting a
whole different view of the business. In China I was looking
to study the reaction to the new demand across the world for Organic tea.
The farmers I visited had interesting reactions to the demand in the
western world for these types of teas. Most of the farms I
visited in China,
including the Organic
farms, were not nearly as intricate as those I had witnessed
in Japan. For the final, and majority, of my journey I went
across the southern border in to India. In India I was
looking for a mixture of both types of farms, but I would only be
looking at the premium
teas that are grown there. The majority, all but
one green tea farm, were black tea
crops. I also asked for their reactions to the Organic tea
movement in the west and how that has affected their way of growing, if
at all. Then I had finished my research with about a month to
spare and decided that rather than leaving early, I was just going to
enjoy the fruits that India has to offer a grad student on a research
grant.
LASER terimi aslında Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation kelimelerinin baş harflerinden oluşmuş bir kavramdır.
My two good friends are moving this week. Andrew
and Nicole have always been great people in my life
that command a large spot in my heart. Still cannot
believe that they are leaving and I have known about
their definite change of address for over a year now.
I have never been able to escape the period of denial
until the very last moment. Then it's like the grief
is crazy-tough. The two of them are just such great
people that it's like what I imagine it must feel like
to have a child moving away for college. I mean I have
known the two of them since we were all in middle
school. I watched them meet and I knew then that these
two should be together. Since then it has been an
amazing experience to watch them become an amazing
couple, get married, and start up their own business
online. That last part is where all of the change
today is coming from.
All of their plans began
about a year ago when one of
our friends who lives in one of the downtown
apartments in Sacramento.
He was also a wholesaler of
the type of clothes that they sell. He decided that
he was going to change businesses and needed someone
to buy his inventory. Rather than selling it off to
someone else in the business, he asked Andrew and
Nicole first. They had been looking at Sacramento
apartments
before this because they wanted to live out
west. So when he dropped the question, they barely
blinked an eye and said yes. The first thing I heard
they were putting in calls to myriad Sacramento
Apartments and had begun organizing a going away party
for themselves.
Now I am not overreacting
her, am I? They are just
the two people who have had the most positive
influence upon my life, and now they're leaving for
good. Now instead if being able to walk two miles to
see them whenever I want, I will need a plane ticket
or a car that can withstand a four thousand mile
journey. I guess this is just one of those
experiences where you have to grow or you're just
hurting yourself.
I recently needed to get a new job for the spring
semester. I searched the web listing for all of the
directory jobs that are offered in the next semester.
There were tons of Teaching Assistant positions and
even more positions for student janitors of each of
the lab classes. Since I didn't want to deal with
either complaining undergraduates, or clean up sea
monkeys in biology labs. Then I looked at the more
office centered positions. When I got to the tech
positions there were a whole group of listings for the
college project
management software development. The
first position on the list was a position of a graphic
designer for the campus' new project management
software. Since I had just finished my minor in
graphic design I figured that I would certainly be
qualified enough for a position like this.
I applied for the position
and in two weeks I
recieved a notice that I had been accepted. I was
very excited to hear the news, but it was quickly
followed by the feeling that I would probably be
working with many other people who had many years more
experience in the field than I would after I was done
with this job. All of my fears were quickly silenced
when I actually showed up for my first day of work.
My first impression was that all of the people who
worked there were so cool and easy going. This seemed
like it was going to be a great job if every day was
like this one. After introductions, I was briefed on
my actual assignment, which was to be a designer for
the project tracking
section of the web based
project
management system that the cumpus hoped to use for the
next year. They layed out all of the specific detais
and requirements for the program which at that point
were just ideas. It was going to be up to me to bring
their ideas to life from scratch, mainly because they
wanted a freash look and design without the aid of any
type of template programs. Basically, they were
looking for an award winning program to sell to other
universities. There was such a high level of energy
from the entire staff that I said it would be no
problem for us to complete the project on time; boy
was I mistaken.
My partner and I are huge fans of Valentine's day.
We both love to just go all out and celebrate right.
Some of our motivation is about love of each other,
and the other half is about making valentine's day
like our second christmas, except the gifts are
supposed to be personal and not just like socks and
books. We always plan to go out to a nice restaurant
and don't even consider the bill when we eat there
because we both know this is only a once a year type
of event. It's also one of probably three times a
year that I have a real excuse to look nice when we go
out. With two kids it is usually my motivation to
just look as good as I can with the resources and time
available. On Valentine's day, we make time to make
ourselves look sexy or handsome. This year is not any
different because we are going to Philadelphia to have
dinner and we are renting our first hotel room in
almost four years. We have reservations at this
amazing moroccan restaurant along the river in old
city. That's also another one of our rules about the
holiday; wherever we eat, it must be some kind of
ethnic food. Also, when it comes to gifts, neither of
us like the heart-shaped box of chocolates or the
roses, we like the real romantic gifts that we usually
use for appearance enhancement. So this year Liz got
me a new pair of dress shoes to wear for the diner
celebration and the club we want to go to afterward. I
got her Prevage MD
which is a face cream
she asked
for, and this little machine called a clarisonic.
She
is kind of obsessive about her skin and her appear to
the point where she went and got some kind of Fraxel
Laser surgery. I don't think she looks like she has
aged a day since I met almost nine years ago. That
may be because I haven't been away from her for more
than a couple of weeks straight in all of these years.
As a Houston
real estate agent, I would
imagine that now would be a great time of year. People
like Houston
Realtors know that in the winter time,
people tend to move more frequently from the north to
areas like their city. I really think that I can
relate relate because when days like this past
saturday hit and it's below zero, those ads for
Houston real estate start looking real tempting.
I did a lot of research on
this topic in my studies
of economic and instinctive psychology. I have always
been interested in the study of how different
psychological factors, such as their basic primal
instincts, effect different economic decisions. So
when a person in Boston in July is looking up the
listing for Houston
condos or Houston
homes for rent,
there is a primal basis for the search. Though most
people don't go out and buy that piece of Central
Houston real estate because their reasoning takes
over, people will never stop tapping in to that
species-old instinct of migration in winter.
I published many papers on
these findings and
obviously my research centered around my studies of
the Houston
Heights real estate system. I was a
student at the university
of Texas and saw that the
old idea that most people make decisions about
finances ratonally had been shattered. This, mixed
with my decision to buy a piece of Houston
memorial
real estate, led me right to the question of
psychology. After I had decided what property I was
going to by, I set a theoretical account complete with
an actual realtor, to buy part of the Houston
medical
center real estate. My introduction to the business
was just a matter of having someone one the inside to
speak with a question. When I had the chance in
conversation, I asked the realtor
about patterns of
seasons. He eventually felt confident enough in my
presence that he showed me some of his seasonal graphs
of business. When I saw the obvious correlation, I
concreted my decision to research this project until
it was clear. Now, four years later, I am a doctor of
economic psychology and feel without a doubt in my
mind that the instinct to leave the cold for the
south, is still alive and well in the human mind. Houston Texas real
estate is a real option. HOME
My friends and I recently held a pretty interesting
party. We are all huge fans of glam rock and roll,
specifically David Bowie and T-rex. These two bands
have changed our lives so much that we have at least
one dance party per season to celebrate our love of
life. The party that we just held was a Glamor party.
It was one of those things that you have to do at
least once in your lifetime or you'll always feel
unsatisfied in some deep dark spot of your soul. In
the true spirit of Glam rock, this was going to be an
eyelash extension, cross dressing, super guitar solo,
big lipped, all night, dance extravaganza.
As I mentioned before, this
party was going to be
perfect and nothing was going to stop us. We started
buying all of our supplies weeks in advance. My
roommate had been assigned to get us the all important
make-up and false eyelashes and eyelash
adhesive. For the girls we agreed
to just get them lash extensions that were a bit
smaller than ours, as to not outdoor the beautiful men
of the party. When the day of the party rolled around
we were going down our checklist of things that needed
to be acquired yet. Everything seemed to have been
gotten already until we came to the all-important
eyelash extensions
and eyelash adhesive.
When I read
off the words, his eyes grew wide in his head. He just
realized that he had forgotten the eyelash
adhesive
glue and that we only had about an hour left before
the drug store that sold it would close. We couldn't
possibly cancel the party, because a few people had
decided against going to spend time at home with their
family over the long weekend, just to come to our
party. It had to be done this time, or we might not
be able to pull it off again with all of our friends
still on our side. We practically shoved Mark out the
door and in to his car. He had enough money to buy a
lifetime supply for one, but we were glaming seventy
people to the fake glitter. He said that he was the
last person out of the store before the doors locked,
and when the party was over he was the king of the
weekend. HOME
Man, Christmas was GOOD to me! I didn’t get many conventional gifts, really, but I got a ton of cash, mostly in the form of gift cards. A store gift card is great, but what’s even better is a prepaid credit card. It’s basically the same deal as a gift card, but it can be used anywhere that it is accepted. I got a few prepaid Visa cards and am really happy about them. A prepaid Visa card is basically a prepaid credit card that is accepted anywhere Visa cards are accepted. In a way, a prepaid Visa card is basically anonymous credit card with a set limit in the way that a gift card has a set amount. Lol, an anonymous credit card, oh wow. Think about all the stuff you could buy with an anonymous credit card - dirty snuff, weird toys, lol, and no way to get any of it traced back to you. Talk about craziness. I wonder what I’ll end up spending it on… most likely a bunch of video games and clothes. I got my PS3 with a gift card, actually, so it’d sort of be like coming full circle if I bought a ton of games with a prepaid credit card/gift card dealie. Sigh. So happy. It’s awesome, because a prepaid credit card isn’t as limited as a gift card, and if you’re like me and do a lot of online shopping, you can use your prepaid Visa card online to buy stuff from eBay or whatever. Then your prepaid credit card ascends onto a higher level and becomes a *whoosh* VIRTUAL CREDIT CARD! Actually, they have those, huh. You basically use any sort of credit card to buy a prepaid credit card, except you don’t get a physical card, but sort of like a limited account that you can use as a credit card, lol. Yes, the internet is full of win. A virtual credit card is superior to a regular prepaid credit card if you plan on using it for online shopping, especially if you have to gift it to someone across the country or out of the country, even. You can send them their information instantly instead of having to mail it out or whatever. So… yeah. If you’re reading this, you know what to get me for my birthday, woohoo!
