Learning Objects
LOs are small, self contained pieces of learning. The idea is to break learning down and reassemble them in multiple ways. "..a digital piece of learning material that addresses a clearly identifiable topic or learning outcome and has the potential to be used in different objects."

All content should be text-only to make it compatible with the greatest number of devices and to make it small enough to download quickly. It really depends on the audience - if you have a high percentage of iPhone users, you can use more graphics.
They have created a WSIWYG editor where you can create learning objects and then package them for use on mobile devices. These are currently accessed from the main libraries web site or the course management system. They are still working on how best to disseminate these learning objects. There is currently a common index for mobile learning objects on their site, but they don't have critical mass yet - they are at the very early stages of doing this.
After the description of Learning Objects and we did an exercise to create Learning Objects and package them with their packaging tool.

- self contained
- generic and potentially reusable
- supplement to learning or information elsewhere
- small (short) is beautiful
- less is more
- new from old
- practice makes perfect
- title - max 15 words
- box 1 - max 45 words
- box 2 - max 45 words
- 5 "pages" max
- strictly one topic - if necessary, link several separate topics
