How to find the walking tour
The panel on Mediated Rhetoric and the Technologies of Communication in Roman Tourist Sites will explore the very center of the tourist's ancient Rome, taking in the Colosseum, the via Fori Imperiali, Piazza Venezia, the Capitoline Hill and Campidoglio, and the Forum. In addition to the scheduled short talks, we will point out various features along the way, and of course invite participants to make their own contributions.
The tour will take place on Thursday, July 16, 1998 from 6:30 to approximately 8:30 p.m. To make it easy for all to find the group, we will meet at 6:30 in the area between the Colosseum and the Arch of Constantine, which is just across the street from a Metro stop and near several bus stops.
Metro stop: Colosseo. Metro line B. Take bus 13 or 30b to Piazza
Colosseo (or take the more frequent buses to Piazza Venezia
or via Fori Imperiali and walk down to the
Colosseum)
Standing in the group one of us will be holding up a small (about 8 by 10 inch) blue flag (apologies for the implied boosterism of this little flag; it would not be very tactful to hold up an American flag and this flag was available in local stores and seemed likely to be distinctive):

We will then proceed up the via Fori Imperiali towards Piazza Venezia, then around to the left past the monument Vittorio Emanuele and up the steps to the Capitoline Hill. We will descend steps at the opposite side of the Capitoline Hill, down towards the Forum, pointing out some features including the rostrum, and then back to the Colosseum.
You might wish to retrace your steps towards Piazza Venezia and find a restaurant for dinner, or make your way directly back to your hotel.
