A study of the American presidency as a rhetorical institution. Readings in rhetorical scholarship on the presidency and intensive analysis of selected cases and texts from Lincoln to Bush; analysis of the "rhetorical presidency" hypothesis; and consideration of issues of speechwriting, mass mediated depiction, and diffusion.
