Day Three Hundred and Fifty-Eight

Thank you for all the beautiful gifts you've given me over these
past years.  And, of course, you’re welcome.

From Sam

These are the last words from me that you will ever read, my beautiful Laurie Lynn.  And sitting here, struggling to find a way to pare down my feelings, I am overwhelmed with the dread of having to leave you…one final time.  And yet, oddly enough, I feel myself being swept away with a joy that is almost indescribable…because of what I am able to write…and because I know that on the day of my parting I am certain to feel the passion behind these words a thousand times stronger.  How utterly amazing!  But I could never find a new way to say how wonderful you are and how much your presence has meant to my experience of this world.  And so I simply leave you with what I consider to be the most profound singular expression of my love:  Whenever I think about you or us, I always have the feeling that I would change nothing…nothing at all. Our entire journey has been perfect, no matter how it is destined to end.  So soar through the remainder of your life, my love.  You can surely do it alone…and you deserve the privilege.

From Laurie

Though you still may not be ready, I have bowed, and the final curtain is falling.  But I am not ready either.  So I call out one last message to you from the darkening stage:  Because of you, I have loved…and because of you, I have lived.  As this ribbon of words unrolls, I pray that you receive the depth and the unity of these sentiments.  And since my exit will soon be complete, I offer one last gift to express my gratitude to you, the only token that could underline my belief that our sacred journey points as much to its own profoundness as to something grander.  So I offer you the moon…and I am gone.

Now when the shade of darkness lowers over the day, enjoy your own light; when you are lost, follow your own beacon.  And when woolly skies blanket your vision of its glory, entrust this everlasting pearl to the setting of my faraway grasp.  And remember, whatever led us to this love surely leads you to eternity.
