Although limestone consists primarily of three components (calcium carbonate, calcium magnesium carbonate and dolomite) the petrography of limestones can be quite varied and impacts its behavior as a sorbent/reagent and its physical properties. Petrography is defined as the "science of the description or classification of rocks." This description or classification is based on texture, structure, and composition which is a reflection of its geological history.
