Because ours is the only systematic study of children and adolescents with CAH, it is important to follow our participants as they grow up.
|
Are young women with CAH more likely to pursue certain fields in college than young women without CAH, or to continue their participation in sports? Are they more likely to pursue careers and less likely to get married?
...................................................
It is also important to look at the dating and romantic interests of teenage girls and young women with CAH. For example, do they start dating later than girls and young women without CAH?
We know that many girls and parents wonder about these questions. By continuing this research, we will be in a better position to address these questions in the future.
|
We will also continue to study young children (ages 2 to 8 years) to answer additional questions about the development of children with CAH.

By studying the same group of people at different ages, we can see how behavior at earlier ages is related to behavior at later ages. It is also important to include as many participants as possible. Therefore, in the current phase of the study, we are studying people who participated in previous phases of our study, as well as new participants 9 years of age and older.
We are examining several questions which follow naturally from our previous results.
For example, we want to know what happens to the interests of females with CAH when they are in their late teens and early 20's.
|
For example, we are studying whether children with CAH (both boys and girls) are more aggressive than their siblings without CAH. Several parents have asked us about this and we hope to be able to have the answer soon.
And we want to know more about the ways in which girls with CAH are just the same as girls without CAH.
