Our results also show that children and adolescents with CAH - both girls and boys - have good emotional adjustment. We also found good adjustment in a separate group of adolescent and young adult males and females with CAH, studied in collaboration with Susan Resnick. Both studies show that people with CAH are not different from their siblings without CAH on a number of traditional measures of emotional functioning. We think that these results are very important because they do not support the idea that intersex conditions are invariably associated with psychological problems. Of course, there are some people with CAH who do have psychological problems, just as there are people without CAH who have problems. But problems do not appear to be more common in CAH than in the general population. If your child does have a problem, don't ignore it - there are many good health professionals available to help you.
