EYE OF THE BEHOLDER

MARGARET DUDA
Gestation

The prow has reached the ornate gate.

The sleek, uplifted form in black
that glides across canals with ease
has come to rest, and waits untethered
for a someone to appear within the house,
behind a parting curtain at the grille
or at-the-ready at the vine-twined gate.

There's nothing but eternity at risk.
