Associate Professor of Chemistry, Pennsylvania State University,
2010-July 2016
Visiting Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, Carnegie
Mellon University, 2011-2012
Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Pennsylvania State University,
2004-2010
Postdoctoral Research Associate, Cornell University, 2002-2004
Ph.D., Polymer
Science, The University of Akron
B.S.,
Chemistry, North Carolina State University
Research Interests
Coupling the principles of
green chemistry with computational metrics to synthesize renewable monomers,
monomer libraries, functional polymers, and sustainable materials. The resulting polymers have tailored
hydrophobicity to optimize solvation of small molecules in polymers. Examples include post-polymer modification,
polymer electrolytes, and biomaterials that enable controlled release. Other interests include finding the
hydrophobic-hydrophilic balance in polymers to improve predictive and
responsive behavior.
