Matt
Jackson teaches copyright law, introduction to telecommunications,
telecommunications policy, communications law, and media programming at Penn
State University. His research focuses
on how copyright law shapes communication networks, culture and free
speech. He also conducts research on the
First Amendment and legal issues affecting the Internet and other

Jackson has published articles in numerous outlets including Journal of Communication, Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic
Media, Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal, Hastings Communications
and Entertainment Law Journal (COMM/ENT), Federal Communications Law Journal,
Communications Law and Policy, and
The Georgetown Journal of International Affairs. He also writes the chapter on cable
regulation for the textbook Communication
and the Law. In Spring
2006 Professor Jackson was a Visiting Senior Lecturer at the University of Otago in New Zealand and a Research Fellow at the Centre
for Media and Communications Law at the University of Melbourne in Australia.
He presents his research at numerous national and international conferences

received his Ph.D. in Mass Communication at Indiana University-Bloomington in
1998. His dissertation was honored with
the Kenneth Harwood Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Broadcast Education
