ELEMENTS OF GEOMETRIC DIMENSIONING AND TOLERANCING

by

E.A. Lehtihet, Ph.D.

  • COURSE OBJECTIVE

  • The focus of this module will be the rational application of the rules and symbology of ASME Y14.5M-1994 GD&T Standard in design of piece parts and assemblies. The typical participant will be one who has successfully completed module one of this course, Introduction to GD&T, and whose job responsibilities include the analysis and development of design specifications for product design, manufacturing and assembly. The principal objective will be to enhance operational skills required in the analysis and development of producible designs.

  • WHAT WILL YOU GAIN ?

    • Understand advanced GD&T concepts pertaining to location controls of single features as well as patterns of features.
    • Learn additional datum concepts including the implications of material condition datum procedures and datum shifts.
    • Appreciate the difference between design and manufacturing datums and learn how to solve change of datum problems.
    • Learn how to analyze and solve dominant position tolerancing problems for assembly.
    • Learn how to analyze and solve dominant datum systems for position and assembly.

  • WHO SHOULD ATTEND ?

  • This course is designed for participants who have successfully completed an introductory course in GD&T and who are looking to further advance their knowledge of the subject by mastering advanced concepts and acquiring valuable application experience in the design analysis and specification of discrete parts and assemblies.

  • WHAT ARE THE PREREQUISITES ?

  • The successful completion of module one, Introduction to GD&T, or a comparable introductory course in GD&T.

  • COURSE MATERIAL AND DURATION

  • Course material for the advanced module is typically selected from the body of material shown in the Elements of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Course Outline and customized in breadth, depth, and duration to suit the participant or company needs.
