- Today you will all get practice in flying in the simulator
- I have purchased the
Greatplanes RealFlight R/C Simulator (G2)
- This runs on my IBM A22P laptop which can be plugged into
the ceiling-mounted projector in the classroom
- We have 75 minutes and 20 students, so everyone
will get roughly 3 minutes of flight time
- This practice time will get you familiar with the R/C
transmitter controls, and you can see how various
airplanes fly differently.
- Below is a picture of a typical R/C radio. For our
aircraft, there are only three controls. The stick on
the left controls throttle (by moving it up and down).
The stick on the right controls pitch and yaw.
Pitch is controlled by moving the stick up and down, and
yaw is controlled by moving the stick left and right.
(Pitch is controlled by moving the elevator, while
the rudder controls yaw.) There are also four slider
switches, these are used to trim the vehicle.
Most radios also have a crystal (which controls the
frequency that it uses), an on-off switch, a battery level
indicator, and servo reversing switches.
- We have also set up the flight simulator in our virtual
reality lab (room 235 Hammond Building). This will be
available from 3:30 - 6:30 PM on thursdays. If the
room is not open, please see Shailesh Jindal in Room 234.
