In addition to Aerospace Engineering, I am involved with several other departments at Penn State. I am Director of the Graduate Minor in Computational Science (with more than 376 graduate students involved since 1999) and the Undergraduate Minor in IST for Aerospace. I am also an Associate Editor of the IEEE journal Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems (TNNLS).

I'm very proud to say I won the AIAA Software Engineering Award and Medal in 2017.

My current research involves: (1) Developing hybrid cognitive systems for robots and unmanned vehicles and (2) Spiking neural networks and learning. There is a complete list of my publications online. Some of my recent research papers are listed here (click to see them): A few of my key papers on education are listed here. These describe the importance of modernizing education and the importance of students learning about computing and software: You can take a campus tour via Google Street View or check out my Google Scholar page.
