Internship Open Houses Fall 2002 One of the best ways to learn about DIs is to visit open houses. At that time the DI director has prepared a program to show off the facility and describe the learning experience. Usually you may talk with both the director and current interns. Typically you will get a tour and may be able to meet one or more of the preceptors. If you feel shy, you don't have pressure on you to have lots of questions because there are other visitors and you can learn from their questions. The more internships you visit, the better position you are in to compare them and make an informed decision about which match your interests. Visiting a site in person seems to be essential to be admitted to many competitive internships because it is by visiting that you convince the DI director that you are seriously interested in the program. This is a list of DI open houses of which I'm currently aware. This list will be updated as more information becomes available. If you can't make a particular open house, phone the internship director to see if a special time can be set up for you to visit. Many DI directors responded to my query to say they don't hold formal open houses, but they encourage interested students to schedule a visit at their mutual convenience. Be sure to read the web pages of an internship before you visit or call with questions. Please remember to RSVP before you show up for an open house. Please leave your name, email address, phone number, post office address and DPD name on your message.
