I was an academic adviser for Penn State's College of Health and Human Development.for 15 years and
served a 3-year term on the University Advising Council.   I retired at the end of December 2002.

Students interested in the Biobehavioral Health major at University Park may call 863-7256 to make an appointment with my BBH replacement, Dr. Susannah Barsom.

Students interested in the Nutritional Sciences major at University Park may call 863-0806 to schedule an appointment with Mrs. Brenda Eissenstat, MS, RD, my replacement for this major.

These advisers work as pre-major academic advisers and also provide advising approvals on behalf of the Dean of the College of HHD.  They  will see both pre-major advisees as well as students officially in either the BBH or Nutritional Sciences major for the following "Dean's Office" approvals:

Sign "dean's" permissions for HHD students to take Independent Learning/Distance Education (correspondence) courses.  Expect to discuss this; it is not automatic.
Sign "dean's" approval for Leaves of Absence (for an upcoming semester).
Sign "dean's" approval for Withdrawal (from the current semester).
Provide information about Faculty Senate petitions for exceptions to Senate Policy.  These usually take two trips because few students have all the materials needed when they first arrive.
Meet with prospective students and families on an appointment basis.

In the summer, they have special responsibilities with "FTCAP," the First-Year Testing, Counseling and Advising Program. They help incoming freshmen plan their first Penn State courses. Staff assistants can tell you details about their summer appointments for advisees.

The HHD Student Services Center publishes the Undergraduate Adviser's Handbook that might be useful to students as well as advisers.  The Center reception area is in 215 Henderson; I suggest you enter "North" Henderson through the main door across from Old Main.
