Artist's Statement
The work in this exhibition belongs to a recent series of objects titled Queer Objects. The series deals with the dichotomy in the meaning of he word queer; from odd, strange, different, defying definition or label, to a slang term used to refer to homosexual people. The objects focus on different aspects of the word's meaning. The dichotomy of the word allows for a feeling of compulsion/repulsion; the need to examine more closely to understand the mystery, and, on the other hand, rejection due to the inability to define or label. It has also allowed for the exploration of social and political issues dealing with sexual orientation.
