Note: The fastest BIOS settings for the HX83 were with DRAM timing set to 60nS. Tweaked manual settings fell short of the 60ns setting. The maximum CPU32 with manual settings was 337. The maximum CPU32 with 60nS timing was 346. All hardware was identical except for the motherboards. All expansion cards were installed in the same slots. At first, I tested the HX83 using the OSR2 previously loaded by the STE. This configuration was not stable.. I reformatted the Cheetah and installed OSR2 using the HX83. This solved all problems. I ran over 10 complete Winbench97 "all winmarks" without a problem. The following charts are representitive. The graphics advantage of the HX83 is consistent. Anyone care to guess what's up with MicroStation GDI scores?
